Woman held on suspicion of dangerous driving as daughter killed in crash

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and child neglect after her young daughter was killed in a crash yesterday (April 30).

Police were alerted to the collision in Gibbins Road, Selly Oak, at around 4pm where a car had left the road and hit a tree.

Witnesses provided CPR on a two-year-old girl, a back seat passenger, and paramedics later tried to revive the toddler but she was pronounced dead in hospital.

Four other people in the vehicle, including the girl’s mother who was driving, suffered minor injuries.

A post mortem examination will take place in due course to determine the precise cause of death.

Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone who saw the collision, and who’s not yet spoken to officers, is asked to call the Collision Investigation Unit on the 101 number.
